    The various types of leave of absence are listed below:

     

     

    Family and Medical Leave (FMLA)

    • Serious Health Condition
    • Birth of Child
    • Placement of Child for Adoption or Foster Care
    • Care for an Immediate Family Member (Spouse, Child, Parent)

    Non-FMLA Medical

    • Own Serious Health Condition

    Sabbatical

    • designated period during which an employee takes an extended break from their regular work, often for personal or professional development, including study or travel, or both.

    Military

    • Spouse, Child, Parent is on active duty and notified of impending call to active duty in support of a contingency operation
    • Care for Spouse, Child, Parent or next of Kin who is a covered service member recovering from a serious illness/injury in the line of duty on active military duty

    Educational with Pay

    • Designated period to which employees are granted time off to pursue educational opportunities while still receiving their regular salary.

    Educational without Pay

    • designated period to which an employee is granted time off from their regular job duties to pursue educational opportunities but does not receive their regular salary or wages during this period.

    Bereavement

    • designated period granted to employees to cope with the death of a certain family member(s)

     

    Jury Duty

    • Designated temporary period during which employees are excused from work to serve on a jury, often with job protection and, in some cases, compensation.

     

    Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Leave

    • Unpaid leave of absence process that is granted to eligible employees for self, under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) to accommodate individuals with disabilities and provide necessary medical or disability-related reasonable on the job accommodations. Employees who are not eligible for FMLA due to FMLA exhaustion, not meeting qualifying 1,250 hours worked in a calendar period, or year-length employment with the district would move forward with this leave process. 

    Workers’ Compensation Leave

    • Refers to a period of job-protected leave with potential wage replacement provided to employees who have sustained work-related injuries or illnesses, aiming to facilitate recovery and rehabilitation. The Injury Reporting form should be completed and scanned to the District’s Employee Relations Department prior to treatment at Concentra or the Emergency Room (if advised). 
  • Leave of Absence and Pay:

    If an employee has a sick bank remaining, they may choose to  be paid using this time until exhausted.  The employee would have to exhaust  any remaining sick time prior  to July 1st of the following fiscal year in order to be eligible for STD-LTD.  An employee may apply for STD-LTD if they meet the requirements for eligibility.See the Human Resources Form library for instructions on how to file a STD/LTD claim.  If approved, the employee would receive 60% of their pay for the time-frame approved by Cigna.
