Disability InsuranceThe District provides all full time permanent employees with Short-Term Disability and Long Term Disability.
The short-term disability plan is a fully-insured plan, administered by a Cigna. All full time permanent employees will be enrolled in short term disability coverage after 90 days of employment. This coverage pays 60% of base (gross) pay after a 30 day waiting period. Pay starts on the thirty-first (31st) consecutive working day of absence for up to a maximum of twenty-six (26) weeks from start of disability. Benefits are paid on a weekly basis.
The long-term disability plan is fully-insured plan, administered by a Cigna insurance company with the terms and conditions of the plan documents. Long-term disability pays 60% of base (gross) pay after a 180 day waiting period. The 180 day waiting period includes the twenty-six weeks of STD, up to the employee’s eligibility for normal Social Security benefits, provided the employee remains disabled. Benefits are paid on a monthly basis.
