Student Teaching (Paid Internship):
This fast track program gives student teachers priority placement in in a full-time teaching position in SLPS during the 2022-2023 school year. When students are close to completing their student teaching requirement with their University, students will interview with SLPS school leaders. If a student teacher meets or exceeds expectations during their internship, they will be fast-tracked and selected for a teaching position with SLPS. By joining this fast track program, students will receive compensation to student teach and must agree to serve in our district in a teaching role for two years. Student teachers will receive a benefits package that is 100% employer paid medical, dental, and vision while serving SLPS students in this capacity. In addition, they would receive $132.00 per day while serving in their student teaching role and throughout the duration of the semester.

Associate Substitute:
This fast track program provides priority placement for student teachers to become the teacher of record with St. Louis Public Schools. Eligible students must be recommended for placement in this role by their University to show that all program requirements have been met. Individuals identified for this role will receive a benefits package that is 100% employer paid medical, dental, and vision, along with compensation of $200 per day! Acceptance into this role would require students to accept a lead teacher role and an expanded arrangement of professional development and coaching provided by the university. Individuals who join this fast track option will agree to serve in SLPS as a teacher for two years.

Are all “master teacher” candidates serving as cooperating teachers certified in their content area?

Cooperating teachers have been identified as master teachers, certified in content area, and been teaching at least 2 complete years in content area.Associate Substitute (Teacher of Record)
Does not receive cooperating teacher but will have all of the same opportunities for professional development and coaching as all 1st year teachers. -
Is there a timeline teacher candidates are expected to be in the role?

Student teachers are required to complete at least 12 weeks of student teaching requirement per DESE. Also, required to complete the semester remaining in role and assisting cooperating teacher.Associate Substitute (Teacher of Record)
Associate Substitute will be required to serve as teacher of record in assigned placement for the duration of the school year. -
What is the cutoff date to make student teaching placements for Fall 2022 semester?

Cooperating teachers for this program is limited; therefore, cutoff date for placement will be Friday, August 5th, to assure all placements are reviewed and accepted.Associate Substitute (Teacher of Record)
