Hello Meramec Families!

My name is Lanita Burnett, I am the Family Support Specialist (FSS) here at Meramec Elementary. I was born and raised in Saint Louis, Missouri, where I received my K-12 education in the Saint Louis Public School district. I received my high school diploma from Cleveland N.J.R.O.T.C in 1997. I completed my Associate's degree from the University of Phoenix in 2009 and my Bachelor's degree at Lindenwood University in 2013. I was hired at Saint Louis Public Schools in 2018, where I started off as a preschool teacher's assistant and was promoted in 2021 to Family Community Specialist, now known as the Family Support Specialist.                                     

As the Family Support Specialist, I will serve as an intermediary contact for concerns of parents. I will be instrumental in efforts to improve parent involvement and build community partners that will aid in assisting our parents. I will promote sharing power, including parents as full partners in the decisions affecting their children and families. Most importantly, I will aid in the understanding of the educational system so that parents may become better advocates for their children's education.

My goal is to cultivate activities that will encourage parents and the community to take an active role in the education of our scholars. I will make every effort to assist our families with available resources to accomplish their goals. I value working with students and families, putting a smile on their faces, and helping them overcome difficult circumstances.
