• The Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis provides chess based learning programs that teach fundamental chess elements and promote educational values through chess. Students are encouraged to demonstrate sportsmanship and to strive for success in the classroom as well as over the chessboard.

     

    Program Overview

    • Standard scholastic chess program ranges from 8 to 12 weeks
    • Classes are 1 day per week, for 1 hour duration
    • Each class will consist of instructor lecture and practice
    • Instruction is individualized based on prior chess knowledge
    • Each Instructor will have a maximum of 16 students per class

     

    Program Logistics

    • Instructors and all necessary equipment will be provided by the Chess Club and

     

    Scholastic Center of Saint Louis

    • Chess boards and sets are donated to the school after first partnership
    • Includes a field trip to the Saint Louis chess campus; lecture from a Grandmaster, and supervised play

     

    Program curriculum will teach :

    • Rules of chess
    • Basic chess board geography
    • Chess pieces movement
    • Basic strategy/tactics
    • Basic tournament knowledge, Skills and knowledge gained:
    • Long-term strategy/planning
    • Critical thinking
    • Logic
    • Sportsmanship
    • Independence
    • Creativity
