• World Food Day

On October 14 and 15, 2011, the Donald Danforth Plant Center led a “Major Community Initiative” to raise awareness about global hunger.  During the United Nations’ commemoration of World Food Day, the center offered an opportunity for Madison Multiple Pathways (MMP) and other schools/programs to participate in packaging meals for people facing starvation in the Sub-Saharan Africa on Friday, October 14, 2011.  Twelve faculty and staff members, along with sixteen   students from Madison Multiple Pathways enjoyed this field experience because they had an opportunity to participate in a global effort to fight hunger, which offered both humanitarian and educational experiences.

Thanks to Madison Multiple Pathways’ School Social Worker Mrs. Abrahatzion Habtu, the students were able to accumulate 2 hours of volunteer/community service!

The Danforth Center Community of 3000 volunteers created 523,000 meals.

“We can’t wait until next year to participate in this worthy cause.”
